# Convert Power

**How to convert Power Units.**

To convert power units, from one to another, you have to multiply with the correct number.

Follow these steps:

- Find the correct conversion variable number.
- Then multiply by that number.

**Definition of Power:**

Power is a physical quantity that describes the amount of work done (energy consumed) in any given unit of time. The **symbol** of power is P. In the SI system, the unit of power is the **joule per second** (J/s), known as the **watt** (W) in honour of James Watt, the eighteenth-century developer of the steam engine.

Power formula: P = dW / dt

Where: dW is the amount of work and dt is time
